Misstress Barbara interview
Born Italian, but
spending her whole life in Canada, this Dj, one of the most
important internationally, and very requested in Spain, has landed
to Klubbers' Day, and we could have the chance to talk to this
techno artist, and in this way knowing better this woman who started
by playing drums and studying cinema to finally become an electronic
music star.
EM - In your biography is commented that when you were younger you
started being interested for completely different styles of music.
Is not new finding this trajectory in many good Dj's nowadays. Do
you think there a connection between all music styles? How does the
change to techno start? Do you think your background in drums and
your studies have smoothed your highway to the fame?
MB
- I think everyone's background is an important influence to what
their future will be. I can't say how much influence on my DJing
playing the drums and studying in school may have had, but for sure
they are all things that have something to do with how I am
conducting my career today. The simple reason why I like techno the
most, is the percussive elements, is the groove. Rhythm has always
touched me in a very special way.

EM - In production, you have lot of interesting musical
works among a wide range of different markets, included
films and videogames. What does complete you more as a
person, your contact with the public during your Dj sessions
or creating your own music? How is your production work
going actually, are you hiding a new track or album in your
pocket?
MB - It used to be the contact with the people while DJing,
but more and more now it's the music production in the
studio. I find myself very happy when I can create, and I
intend to keep expressing myself that way for as long as I
can. Presently I am working on my Artist project, it's an
album of all my songs, and I sing on most of them, I can't
wait to finish it and release it!
EM - We've read that you love house music, but you're known
by your hard techno style, are you thinking about empowering
your house facet under your name of Barbara Brown?
MB - Not for the moment. |
EM - We have realized you have born in Italy, but you have spent
most of your live in Montreal. How much of your Italian spirit is
reminding actually on you? Do you think is a factor to explain your
preferences of rhythms? Where do your influences mostly come?
MB
- I am still very Italian at heart. But my musical influences mostly
come from growing up in Canada, from all kinds of different music.
EM - Is not the first time you visit Spain. How was your past
experience in festivals like Monegros or Sonar? How did you feel
with the Spanish audience? What are your expectations for the
Klubbers’ Day in Madrid next March?
MB - Spain is a great country where I find
myself like at home. I have the luck of having a great fan base over
there and when I play it's always really fun thanks to the
connection that I have with my crowd there. So my expectations for
Klubbers Day are as high as they can be, because I know it will be a
good party!
